Unlocking legends: creating a 22ct gold ring for ITV’s The Winter King

When jewellery meets mythology, something magical happens. We were honoured to bring a design to life for the hit ITVX drama The Winter King – commissioned to craft a one-of-a-kind 22ct gold “Key Ring” which blended history, artistry, and storytelling. When the production team behind The Winter King approached us, they had a clear vision: to create a piece that would feel ancient yet alive – a ring with the power, mystery, and presence worthy of Uther Pendragon himself.

This “Key Ring,” worn by actor Eddie Marsan in his portrayal of Uther, needed to look as though it had survived centuries of history. Every curve, texture and mark was designed to tell a story of craftsmanship, age and authority.

Crafted in over 60 grams of 22-carat yellow gold, the ring was produced in two parts, later joined to create a naturalistic, hand-forged feel. The entire process, from initial cast to final polish, took just over 12 hours, yet the design captures the essence of centuries.

The result? A striking artefact that feels ancient but gleams with modern craftsmanship – a ring that could have been discovered in the ruins of Camelot. We used a sandbox casting technique – a process that allows for organic textures and subtle irregularities, perfect for replicating the raw beauty of early metalwork.
